Lynda’s Lifts is a company which aims to provide a friendly, safe and efficient service to the community to allow people in wheelchairs to travel independently wherever they wish, with the knowledge that a qualified carer is at the wheel.
The company was set up because of Lynda’s dad, Bob, who had a stroke twelve years ago and was then confined to a wheelchair. Lynda’s mum often struggled to find taxis who would take Bob. Eventually Lynda’s mum had to buy a car, which had been converted to take a wheelchair to be able to take Bob out and about. Lynda already had many years’ experience in working in a care home for the elderly and helped her mum and dad out as often as she could. When her dad sadly passed away, Lynda decided to buy the car from her mum and took the chance to set up a taxi service, which was different from most. Lynda sees herself as primarily a carer and a taxi driver second and says that this is the best job that she has ever had.
Lynda has twenty years’ experience in the care sector with a wide variety of service users, including twelve years in elderly care. She has often worked with people who use wheelchairs, including her own father. So she knows how to handle people courteously and wheelchairs safely and with friendly humour. Lynda is a registered care worker with the Scottish Social Services Council: 2040007S. She has an HNC in Social Care and an SVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care. She has also passed a Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver at QCF level 2.
Alison is the back up driver. She is a qualified first aider and has her certificate in advanced driving.
Lynda undertakes all sorts of journeys, whether it’s to the doctor’s, the theatre, shopping, to visit friends or family or even a longer trip for a wee holiday. Trips are negotiated to suit the passenger’s needs. We try to provide the sort of service Lynda’s dad would have been pleased to use and to give wheelchair users the freedom to get around as they wish without having to worry about anything.
